A seemingly innocuous toy made of porcelain or plastic has been central to urban legends and ghost stories that span generations. Sometimes they show up in the wild, making you wonder how they got out there on their own. Others live in museums and stores, peering out at the guests who come by to visit. Regardless of where you find them, these terrifying toys are all unique in their own ways.

Curious travelers are in for an eerie sight as they near the Grassy Point Railroad Bridge in Minnesota. Along the timbers of the bridge, in a spot that is only accessible via kayak or boat, are rows of several dolls and other stuffed animals. The collection was created by Rick McDonald, but no one knows why he began the bizarre display. South of Mexico City is one of the most haunting places in the entire country. La Isla de las Muñecas (Island of the Dolls) is covered with the remains of hundreds of dolls. Some are decomposing throughout trees while others are dressed in sunglasses and hats, all left behind by one man.
